Alexa C. | @alexagrowmybusiness Thank you! Makes me feel better about my decision to cancel with them. They tried to tell me that because 11 people used Yelp to get directions to me that I must have had new clients. However I told them I ask every new person who walks into the studio how they found us and not one said Yelp. Maybe someone wanted to just see where we were located in relation to their house but they didn’t actually come to the studio. Just because someone maps directions doesn’t mean they actually came here

Hi Kristen daunais We sell Toe Sox. You sign up with the parent company, 33 Threads. I prefer their grips over others as they last longer through multiple washes but I know there are companies that have cute crew style grip socks and such. With 33 Threads you can also order clothing and bags to help you meet your minimum.

Does anyone use Yelp for their studio? I never have but decided to try a 14 day trial but DANG! They want around $180 per month just for me to keep my page (logo, biz highlights, CTA). The sales rep was trying to shower me with all the leads I had but I ask everyone who comes through our door and not one person in the last 14 days said they found me on Yelp. Idk, has anyone else found yelps pricing worth it?

In need of scheduling mishap advice- So in 2022 when I took over my studio I implemented online scheduling. Some of our existing clients have been resistant to learn it, mainly our older clients, and I get it. Tech stuff is overwhelming for them. So we offer to help them with scheduling their private sessions either before or after their session. We don’t do scheduling after hours and they respect this. If they have a preferred day & time of training, we explain to them that our schedule is open online 30 days in advance and others book independently so we advise they always book their sessions in advance and not wait till their package is completely out to grab their next one so they won’t lose their preferred time slot. So far, in the 2 years, I think people have had to be flexible with their times like 2-3 times. Well this past week our oldest client (who’s daughter-in-law was the original owner of the studio) had one of her upcoming preferred time slots booked by someone else. When we went to schedule her next sessions for her we explained this so we could find her a different time for this one day. She was utterly shocked that this happened because she feels that Wednesdays at 10am are HER TIME. She has trained on different days before but for the past year she’s been on Wednesdays at 10am. I understand she’s older (85 years young) and we offered to do her scheduling but how can I kindly remind her that we don’t block out time slots for anyone? Or should I block off her preferred time slot for her to avoid future mishaps- not tell her this, but emphasize getting her new package in advance? I’m trying to get our clients to book independently, and most of our newer clients do. It’s our existing clients that we had pre-tech change that got used to the pen and paper scheduling and prefer our concierge services but they hold this entitlement that they own their preferred time slot. Idk, am I being unreasonable? Btw, we use Momence which is pretty user friendly. I have another client in her late 70’s who specifically switched to our studio from another studio because we had online scheduling whereas the other studio was own & paper and always texted clients back and forth to set appointments.

Katie I had Danielle Stead Blanton create my employee contract. It’s a legal document so it’s good to have someone like her create your contacts. My workers compensation insurance company gave me a lot of resources for my employee handbook. I also referred to my state’s labor laws for employers. They usually have requirements about what needs to be posted for employees

I do an onboarding process with my new teachers. They are on a 90 day probation in which they are observing how we teach at the studio. Over the 90 days I slowly integrate them into teaching. Depending on the teachers experience they might be on a shorter probation term. Its all laid out in my contract with them. I found this helps them learn about our studio environment and helps me prepare them to teach. I get a lot of new teachers coming out of teacher training and they can be very green so I want to make sure they are a good fit for our community.

Lauren Schoenfeld Tavi (33 Threads) is now doing screen printing on their clothing and bags and the minimum order is like 12 items which is not bad. You just send them your logo or design. I haven’t ordered anything yet but it’s in my to do list.
